Summer Baseball & Softball

We are thrilled to offer our athletes ages 8 through 12 the opportunity to continue their development by participating in competitive, regional games throughout the summer.

Our baseball program offers eligible players the chance to represent Pembroke on either a Friendship League (8U's only), Suburban League or South River League team in both divisional and tournament play against other area teams. "A" Level Suburban League teams will also participate in the Cal Ripken tournament where successful teams can compete at a regional and state level.

Our softball program plays in the South Shore Softball League (SSSL), competing against 20+ towns across the South Shore.

Your child will receive high-level instruction and play alongside other players who have the same willingness to learn the game. Those participating share a unique opportunity to represent their town, build friendships and compete against similarly talented players from all over the South Shore. While this experience is typically more competitive than our in-town spring season, the emphasis is still having fun, providing instruction, and teaching sportsmanship.

COMMITMENT

Baseball games and practices are typically played during weekday nights in additional to 1 or 2 local tournaments held over a weekend.

While attendance at all summer practices and games is considered mandatory, the following events non negotiable:

Baseball District Tournament: typically around Fathers Day (9U and older)

Baseball State Championships: typically 4th of July week with the actual 4th off (if team qualifies)

Kids Helping Kids Tournament: July 12-14 (8/10/12U) and July 19-21 (9/11U & Softball)

Softball games are on Monday and Wednesday nights for 12U and Tuesday and Thursday nights for 10U. Each team will participate in our annual the Kids Helping Kids tournament in Pembroke this summer. Each team has the discretion to practice as much or as little as they so choose but the normal practice schedule is 2x per week. Total commitment is on average 3 or 4 days per week. Games begin at 6pm with home games held at the Mattakeesett Street Field Complex and away games played on fields from as far south as Plymouth and as far north as Quincy.

Due to the competitive nature of our baseball and softball leagues, should your child be asked to join a team we ask that you have a family conversation about the time that is asked of our players and their families. It is expected that this team will take priority over many other summer commitments.

FAQ's

Can my family still go on our summer vacation?

The season typically runs from the end of June to the beginning of August leaving most of August for family travel however given the commitment level each team requires it is understandable that family vacation can cause conflicts. If conflicts do arise, these conflicts can certainly be managed but it is imperative that players selected for “A” teams be available for the Cal Ripken District Tournament at the start of each summer season AND the State Championships, should the team qualify, usually around the 4th of July.

Will my child get equal playing time?

Equal playing time is not given to all players during the SSSL, Suburban, Friendship and South River summer schedule which in all of our teams will participate. For baseball teams competing in the Cal Ripken Tournament (District teams only), playing time is at the discretion of the coaching staff. There is no minimum play rule so there is a chance that your child may not participate in a particular game or even throughout the tournament.

What age group should my son/daughter tryout for?

BASEBALL: Your child's age as of 4/30/24 will determine their appropriate age group.

SOFTBALL: Your child's age as of 9/1/23 will determine their appropriate age group.
